A Sign in the Trees
While hiking with friends recently, I came across a curious sight that, in all my years on the trail, I had never truly noticed: a vibrant, young tree growing directly out of the mossy stump of a dead one.
Fascinated, I did some research when I got home and discovered this is known as a "nurse stump." This phenomenon occurs when a decaying tree provides a nutrient-rich environment, moisture, and protection for a new seedling to take root. This wondrous part of nature is a striking example of one of the most profound signs of Allah—how He brings the living from the dead and the dead from the living.
He brings the living out of the dead and brings the dead out of the living and brings to life the earth after its lifelessness. And thus will you be brought out.
The Holy Quran | Chapter 30, Verse 19
